Creating Cyanotypes
Cyanotypes are a type of slow photography that does not require a camera. In a style known as contact printing they are made by placing objects onto paper impregnated with the right chemicals, then exposing the paper to light.
This workshop is an introduction to this wonderful world of alchemy. An introduction will inform and inspire participants who then undertake the practical exercise which gives all a chance to create their own images to take away.
People have been making Cyanotypes for 180 years, originally this technique was used to create copies of important documents (blueprints) and for creating scientific records (see Anna Atkins and her pioneering botanical work). It's a fascinating process as you watch the images form before you, changing as more light then water is added.
All materials, including gloves, are provided. Guests are asked to consider that the chemicals, which usually wash out of clothing, could stain and are invited to dress accordingly.
Numbers are limited giving each person space and time to create their own cyanotypes.
A 2 hour Workshop is £25.
Please be sure to book your place. This can be done by completing the form below.
